Project goals

The main purpose of the Level-Up project is to develop a platform that can manage and optimize the entire lifecycle of an industrial machine: from its design, assisted by data-driven approaches and digital twins, to the management of its useful life through predictive maintenance approaches, to revamping, modernization and end-of-life management operations.

Specifically, the project aims to:

  • Introduce new operational protocols and diagnostic and prognostic strategies, primarily leveraging the concept of CPS (Cyber-Physical Systems)
  • Manage the lifecycle of machinery through software tools integrated in a scalable platform
  • Perform digital/virtual twin simulations to increase machine performance and life
  • Improve laser-based and 3D scan techniques for maintenance purposes

The role of Holonix

Holonix directly intervenes with a solution that is based on one of its already commercially available machinery management tools: i-Live Machines.

The goal of the team is to develop – in collaboration with the project partners – new experimental features of the product-service itself, improving its predictive diagnostics capability and developing a Cyber Physical System layer to support machines. Machines are thus increasingly intelligent, sensory data are remotely accessible and a 360-degree monitoring is enabled.

i-Live Machines

Holonix is therefore committed to the end-users of the project in order to integrate and test the new features developed to support both manufacturers and users.

An ambitious goal is also the proposal of a new maintenance algorithm that can identify in real time which interventions to perform, according to the measurements from the field and based on an estimate of the remaining useful life of a machine, also considering the possibility that this may be subject to reconditioning.

Key competences acquired

Thanks to the participation in the project, Holonix is experimenting new solutions within the dynamics of Industry 4.0, not only strictly linked to machinery management, but more generally to the management of a generic product’s lifecycle.

The Holonix team is working on the design of new multi-level IT solutions, increasing its IoT and Big Data know-how and progressively gaining more and more experience in CPS and Machine-to-Machine wireless communication protocols.
